Time to get serious about this preventable problem

Often, I start these letters with a pithy story…

Maybe something amusing about the media’s crazy coverage of the latest health news… or yet another escapade in the Collins household.

But today I’m getting serious, because I’ve come across some stats that are really shocking.

Every day 250 people in the UK start to lose their sight…

...While one in five of us will experience sight loss in our lifetimes.

One in five? That’s horrifying. We tend to think of sight loss as an extreme event but it’s more common than you think.

Your sight is a precious sense and your world will be forever changed without it - you probably don’t need me to tell you this, of course. It’s one of the ultimate fears people have in life…

Not being able to see your loved one’s faces… not being able to enjoy the pleasure of reading or watching TV like you used to… not being able to gaze out across a or even jumping into the car to nip to the shop or see a friend.

But it would be even more horrifying knowing that it was PREVENTABLE? Or at least that you could have slowed or massively delayed the process to get the most out of your life.

Why the inevitable isn’t ALWAYS inevitable

In her book Rachel Linkie explains why declining vision is not always "just a part of the ageing process” and reveals some sight-saving strategies that work without the risks of drugs and laser eye surgery.

For instance, let’s take a few commons ways to lose your sight. Statistics from 2016 broke down the causes of sight loss and included these three:

  • Macular degeneration – 23%
  • Cataracts – 19%
  • Glaucoma – 7%

These account for a lot of cases, and yes there is treatment of some kind for them.

You might get shown corrective lenses or contact lenses in the hope that they’ll slow the process. Or you might opt for cataract surgery, which can have serious side effects including the risk of an infection or bleeding in your eye!

That is, once you’ve waited for as many as two years on the list to get the opp.

Or worse, these vision threats go untreated or ignored until your eyes begin to fail in old age.

However, you don’t have to have your life devastated by macular degeneration, cataracts or glaucoma.

As you’ll see, these problems usually occur because of a lack of vital nutrients which your eyes need to stay strong.

As Rachel points out, or there are two specific nutrients that, when combined, can cut your risk of cataracts by 97%.

A similar thing applies to macular degeneration, which is often written off as inevitable, or incurable. When the macula degenerates, it leaves a blind spot in your vision, making it impossible to read, drive your car, or see faces clearly.

But in Rachel’s report you’ll see a large-scale study where researchers found that people who had low levels of just three particular nutrients were 70% more likely to get macular degeneration.

As for cataracts, you'll be surprised to learn that it’s often nutritional deficiencies that trigger the disease and accelerate its progression. Which means that nutritional supplements and dietary changes can also that can help prevent the disease.

Her report will show you ways you can prevent these two big problems, as well as.

  • dry eyes
  • conjunctivitis
  • persistent eye infections
  • myopia
  • eye strain
  • blurry vision…
  • diabetic retinopathy

By the way, if you already suffer from eye disease, it’s not too late to do something about it, even if you’re finding that some of the mainstream solutions aren’t quite doing the job. There are other measures you can take which you are not being told about.
