Green Lipped Mussels - New Zealand's most hidden secret

Can you imagine being back at school, and being told off for eating too many greens...?

'Look at your plate Collins - you've eaten ALL of your cabbage! Go straight to the headmaster's office!'

Well, if you want to protect your joints and help beat arthritis, I'm going to tell you something similar today. You see, there's a chance you've been getting TOO MUCH of a good thing in your diet - and it could be
slowly gnawing away at your joints.

Is this healthy oil damaging your joints without you knowing it?

The general consensus these days is that our western diet is far too high in Omega-6 fats.

These are fats you get from high levels of vegetable oils in modern cooking processes.

This isn't to say that omega-6s are bad for you - they're actually ESSENTIAL for good health - it's just that they need to be properly balanced out by an intake of omega 3 fatty acids (many experts believe the ideal ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 should be 1:1).

Sounds easy doesn't it? After all, you can find Omega 3 fats in fish, seafood, broccoli, cabbage, and walnuts and flaxseeds.

In fact, the average Western diet has a ratio of 20:1. Yoikes!

So why is there such a shortfall of Omega 3 in our diets? First off, we'd have to eat a lot of the above to get sufficient Omega 3 fats into our diet (and be honest, when was the last time you said 'more flaxseed anyone?' as you dished out Sunday lunch). Plus, even when we DO eat these foods, there's a good chance the Omega 3 levels will be depleted because of modern 'high yield' farming methods.

Because of this, we're a long way off of hitting the perfect 1:1 ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 oils. And it's this huge imbalance which is being linked to many systemic inflammatory problems.

I've mentioned this brilliant natural remedy before, but maybe not in the context of ironing out this Omega 6 vs Omega 3 imbalance...
