How to stop Alexander Fleming from spinning in his grave

The Good Life Letter

13th August 2017

Since 1928 when Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin, the human race has been protected against a whole host of dangerous bacteria – but this golden age is about to end.

In less than ninety years the effectiveness of these precious drugs has rapidly declined.

A generation of people demanding cures for simple colds, basic tooth aches and unspecified feeling grotty has done that. Along with a poorly educated medical community who have been doling them out like sweeties to keep their patients happy, rather than having the skills to accurately diagnose conditions and offer the best advice...

...even if that is just to go home, drink fluids and stay warm.

This is a scandal, but more than that it is a dangerous state of affairs that will see the resurgence of conditions that were once nearly extinct, and more scarily a huge rise in deaths that could have been avoided.

The reason for this is that we forgot that the bacteria that caused many diseases were living creatures that can change and evolve thousands of times faster than us.

Whilst humans can develop resistance to infections over the course of a couple of decades, our microscopic invaders can adapt to challenging conditions (such as those caused by antibiotics that were killing them) in a few weeks – months at most.

Bacteria can do this through several mechanisms. Some bacteria develop the ability to neutralize the antibiotic before it can do harm, others can rapidly pump the antibiotic out, and still others can change the antibiotic attack site so it cannot affect the function of the bacteria.

These resistant strains then become dominant in a population to devastating effect.

Right now, shifts in bacterial strains which cause conditions such as tuberculosis, skin infections and even glue ear in children (otitis media) are challenging the medical profession as previously effective drugs now have no effect at all.

We have all heard of problems with hospital acquired infections where patients go in for simple operations and contract serious medical conditions whilst there – such as MRSA which causes open sores and wounds that don’t heal.

No antibiotic is effective against this condition on its own – our last gasp is to blanket bomb the bacteria with every drug we can and hope. Really, it is that bad.

So, whilst the headline to my segment might seem a little alarming – it was meant to be because we must change our view. Tomorrow is too late.

Discover how you can stop a common and embarrassing problem without antibiotics

Choose nature – it really is the best remedy

One of the facts that always amazes me is that many of the natural remedies featured in The Good Life Letter over the years don’t suffer from the same problems as antibiotics, and there is a simple reason for that.

They are natural!

Modern drugs tend to have single modes of action and this makes it easy for malignant bacteria to evolve around, but because natural remedies have multiple ways in which they work it makes it impossible for the malignant microbes to evolve any protection against them.

Fortunately there are some areas of the health profession who have recognised and embraced this to great effect when other treatments began to fail.

For instance, some of the world’s leading hospitals are fighting MRSA with Manuka honey patches – and they are proving to be incredibly successful. Think about that for a moment, something completely natural that has been around for hundreds of thousands of years is able to achieve what man-made drugs could do for a matter of 100 years.

Today I want to open your eyes to the possibility of dealing with a very common problem for women and men that is always treated with antibiotics (but really shouldn’t be) – bladder infections and in particular cystitis.

Many people put up with the burning pain until they can stand it no more and trudge along to their GP to relate a series of embarrassing symptoms, then leave clutching a month’s worth of expensive and largely ineffective antibiotics. They then return after the course, still in pain, to be given an even more powerful antibiotic.

This pattern continues over the next year before the infection finally succumbs, but in that time each dose merely helps the bacteria that is causing the infection to adapt and adjust, so that next time – and there always is a next time – the drugs just don’t work.

How about a totally natural way to stop this embarrassing, painful and debilitating infection in its tracks, without resorting to yet more antibiotics?

Here is the completely natural way to stop cystitis in its tracks

The really good sugar...believe it or not!

You know that I am no fan of sugar being promoted as healthy, reading my piece from Friday will confirm that.

However, it might surprise you to discover that there are some sugars that I absolutely do endorse – fructose in honey is one for instance.

But another is a form of naturally occurring glucose called D-Mannose and this is the most perfect remedy for cystitis that you could ever find.

D-mannose is processed and eliminated by our bodies very quickly.

It travels through our digestive system and arrives into our bladder via the kidneys.

The E.coli previously attached to the bladder wall and multiplying in the bladder interact with the D-mannose, forming an even better bond with it than they do with the bladder wall, and become mobile.

They can then simply be washed away during urination.

D-mannose is a pure and natural form of glucose, similar to a type already produced by our bodies, but which for many of us is not enough.

It is a simple sugar supplement which many people worldwide use every day to help against these irritating and debilitating infections.

Perhaps the best news is that D-mannose has no known side effects or drug interactions and can be used by adults, children and even family pets as a food supplement.
