If you’re still confused about this week’s letter don’t worry, let me explain…

The bizarre link between African sands and arthritis

For many centuries a common remedy for arthritic pain was to be buried in hot sand – a practice which can be traced back to North Africa, and the tribes around an oasis at Siwa in the El Dakrror mountains to the North-West of Cairo.

It has continued to the modern day with many expensive health centres like the one at the Geomedicine Centre & Spa in Madeira, Portugal.

There hot sand treatments are the local speciality. I kid you not; people flock there and PAY to be buried in sand!

I read an article in The Times Online in June 2009 about a journalist who went there to try this spa out.

She ended up buried up to her neck in sand, heated to about 40 degrees centigrade. The therapist explained that you do this for 30 minutes twice a day over a seven day period.

The effects are supposed to take hold after four days of daily treatment.

So what's this all about?

The secret, say the modern advocates of 'sand therapy', is in the silica found on the surface of the sand granules.

So how can you discover some of these amazing benefits for yourself?

Well, I'll explain all - and offer you something a lot more convenient than being buried alive.

How to boost the silica in your body for super healthy joints

Back in 1957 a researcher called Norbert Duffaut got interested in silicon. His mission was to find a form of organic silicon that could be easily absorbed by the body.

This was important, because the body needs silica, especially as we get older.

As we age, the silica in our bodies runs out, resulting in wrinkles, dry skin, brittle nails and bones. Silica is important ingredient in collagen - this is the glue that you together. It keeps your joints and skin elastic.

So silica is vital for your joint health. It also keeps you looking a feeling younger giving you glowing skin, strong nails and glossy hair (well, in my case what's left of it!)

Going back to Norbert, then...

Inspired by the North African traditions, he discovered that on the surface of sand grains, micro-organisms dissolve silicon using special acids. This in turn creates a thin layer of amorphous silica.

This stuff is soluble in water, which means it can be absorbed by the human body. This was a real breakthrough.

Over the next 30 years, Duffaut developed an organic silica gel which can be easily absorbed through the skin. This way you could simply rub it on like a lotion and let it be absorbed by the skin.

In my view that's a lot more comfortable than burying yourself in sand.

I mean, when I think of being up to my neck in sand, I think of the old films about the French Foreign Legion. You know, where the soldiers get buried in sand as a punishment? Looks Nasty!

So forget about the sand. If you're interested in trying a natural source of topical organic silica, take a look at this:

Strengthen your muscles, bones, tendons and cartilage with Flexilica – the new Artrosilium

Now those of you who have been Good Life Letter readers for a while will no doubt remember a similar product called Artrosilium. In fact I still get letters asking where you can buy it.

Unfortunately, the product is no longer available.

You see, Artrosilium was one of those products which fell foul of the new regulations introduced by the Department of Health.

The MHRA (Medical & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) deemed that this fantastic product was unsafe to be sold without a licence because they classed it as a medicine.

The fact that it was a highly effective way to control joint pain seemed to pass them by.

So, despite a huge backlash against the ruling it is now illegal to promote, market or distribute Artrosilium in the UK.

But don’t worry as I’ve found something just as good. It’s called Flexilica and is a natural arthritis remedy just like the one they took off the shelves. Just look at the wonder-stuff they put into this new one:

- Organic silica which Norbert Duffaut spent so much time developing, and which was the basis of the effective nature of Artrosilium.

- Blackcurrant is a powerful natural anti-inflammatory because it acts to boost the immune and cardiovascular systems.

- Glucosamine and chondroitin protect, stabilise and help repair damaged cartilage within joints, which is the source of arthritic and rheumatic pain.

You know what they say – a change is as good as a rest so since we can no longer get our hands on Artrosilium, we should trust in this 100% natural and equally effective gel instead.
