This might be boring but it could well save your life

The Good Life Letter

“How can something so boring be so important?”

When your dearly beloved begins to criticise your work it can be painful to bear but to some extent I understood where she was coming from.

You see I began to discuss the importance of magnesium in our diets a few years ago and it has become a bit of an obsession of mine of late because everything I am discovering about this mineral seems to make sense in today’s world.

If you have got restless legs at night, use magnesium...want to lose weight, magnesium is your answer...having trouble sleeping, magnesium is your friend...worried about hair loss, save it with magnesium...finding life stressful, calm yourself with magnesium...etc...etc...etc.

It really is a never-ending list of benefits and all from something that we get from food – or at least we should.
Now Lara, my long-suffering wife, has become rather bored with me bouncing up to her and saying, ”Guess what else magnesium is good for?”

This is usually followed by an eye roll which has been perfected over many years of being in my company, “Pray tell, does it lead to world peace?”

“Well it could definitely help Messrs Trump and Jong-Un to better hair control and that has to stop them being such angry men... but no, I have just discovered that it can help prevent and relieve migraines.”

Such is the joy of Chateau Collins on a cold and rainy day! I spoil the woman, really I do!

Maybe you too think that I am being too starry eyed about the health benefits of such a basic and elemental mineral – I hope not, as what I am about to offer you could change your life for the better, forever.

A complete solution to many common health problems begins with magnesium – find out more here

Why boring is really beneficial

Magnesium is a pretty abundant element that our bodies can absorb though our gut and also across our skin.
So this means it should be quite easy for us to get what we need from food and also from contact with mineral bearing compounds such as rocks and soil.

In addition, it is virtually impossible to overdose on magnesium because our kidneys are more than capable of maintaining the correct levels. So given all of this, I hear you cry, why do we need to worry about being magnesium deficient?

Believe or not there are four basic reasons why magnesium levels in virtually everyone’s body is below optimal levels:

  • The modern diet has shifted the nutritional balance to the extent that it is dominated by carbohydrates, and sugars in particular. Our physiological function means that for every molecule of sugar our body uses we waste 54 molecules of magnesium to process it. Essentially then our food is beginning to poison us.

  • In days long gone (i.e. thirty years ago!) we consumed a lot of vegetables grown locally which always carried some good honest dirt that was rich in all sorts of minerals including magnesium. Now vegetables are washed to within an inch of their lives and the good nutrients that was on their skin is lost, added to which modern high yield farming methods are depleting soil levels of magnesium, so even if you do eat a bit of dirt on your carrots chances are it has very low amounts of good minerals in it.

  • As I referred to in Friday’s letter, we are all living increasingly stressful lives and it’s draining us. Stress hormone production requires high levels of magnesium, and stressful experiences lead to depletion of magnesium stores.

  • Lastly our reliance on pharmaceutical remedies has serious consequences for magnesium levels especially when taking steroids (cortisone and prednisolone in particular), blood pressure medications and even every day products like antibiotics and contraceptive preparations. One thing I also discovered is that fluoride competes with magnesium for uptake so if you have high fluoride toothpaste this alone can lead to sub clinical deficiency.

The next question is why our GPs aren’t seeing this massive level of deficiency in the population?

The answer to this is the fact that the only test they use is a blood test and all the research shows that this is both inaccurate and inefficient because our body will deplete all of its resources to keep magnesium levels in the blood at the correct level – you see if it falls too low we would have a heart attack and die... clever body! However, this means that our cells and bones can be purged of magnesium to keep the blood level up...hence the blood test alone will never be accurate.

Chances are you will already be suffering from one or more of the common symptoms of reduced magnesium in your body, these include:

  • Constipation

  • High blood pressure (Hypertension)

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Lethargy

  • Fatigue

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Muscle cramps and restless legs

  • Chronic back pain

  • Migraines and other headaches

  • Muscular pain and/or tendonitis

  • Anger and aggression

  • Brain fog and forgetfulness

  • Tension and stress

  • Anxiety disorders such as OCD

This variety of symptoms proves how vital magnesium is if it can affect all of these systems in our body – just to put this into context it is a cofactor in over 300 enzyme reactions in the body that affect protein synthesis, muscle activity and nerve transmission.

It really does need to be taken seriously.

A major offer to help you balance your magnesium books

It would be very easy for me to say that a daily supplement would be all that you needed but that isn’t the answer on its own – and it has taken me a long time and many hours of research to discover that what our body actually needs is a diverse exposure to this essential mineral.

Popping a supplement will provide some of the benefits but what I have on offer for you is something much more inclusive and offers you a chance to make magnesium a really important part of your life.

I have worked with some of the leading suppliers of organically sourced magnesium in the world to give you a complete and complementary set of products that will work with your body from top to toe and at an amazing discount for the lucky few who take advantage of this unique package.
